Are you over the age of 18 and currently working in the mental health field? I am conducting a research study about the experience of mental health professionals when utilizing a combination of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and play therapy in reducing childhood behavioral and emotional challenges.

You are invited to be in the study if you are a Mental Health Professional:

  • Who speak English fluently
  • Who is using a combining of EMDR and play therapy with children ages 3-12.

The qualifying mental health professionals must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a Master's or Doctoral degree in the mental health field (Counseling, Marriage Family Therapy, Psychology, Psychotherapy, Psychiatry, Social Work) or related mental health discipline.
  • Must also be licensed to practice in their state.
  • The individuals must be able to provide evidence of a license/certification/registration as a mental health professional.
  • The individuals must be able to provide certification of completion of the EMDR Basic Training, which includes Part 1, Part 2 and 10 consultation hours.
  • The individual must be able to provide one of the following: one academic course in play therapy and/or equivalent play therapy training, which will be a minimum of 30 hours of training. Also, include a minimum of 20 play therapy clinical hours working with a Registered Play Therapists (RPT) or someone having the equivalent academic training as a RPT.

All participants will be between 18+.

 

If you do not meet the description above, you are not able to be in the study.

 

WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THIS STUDY?

If you decide to be in this study you will be asked to do the following things:

  • Give personal information about yourself.
  • Answer questions during an interview.
  •  

    While you are in the study, you will be expected to:

    • Follow the instructions you are given.
    • Tell the researcher if you want to stop being in the study at any time.

    WILL I BE RECORDED?

    The researcher will audiotape your (i.e. interview). The researcher will use the audiotape in order to for the researcher may access and refer to the exact words of the participants over the course of the proposed study. The researcher will only use the recordings of you for the purposes you read about in this form. They will not use the recordings for any other reasons without your permission unless you sign another consent form. The recordings will be kept for seven years and they will be kept confidential. The recordings will be destroyed after seven years. 


    WILL BEING IN THIS STUDY HELP ME?

    Being in this study will not help you. Information from this study might help researchers help others in the future.


    ARE THERE RISKS TO ME IF I AM IN THIS STUDY?

    No study is completely risk-free. However, I don’t anticipate that you will be harmed or distressed during this study. You may stop being in the study at any time if you become uncomfortable.

    WILL I GET PAID?

    You will not receive anything for being in the study.


    DO I HAVE TO BE IN THIS STUDY?

    Your participation in this study is voluntary. You can decide not to be in the study and you can change your mind about being in the study at any time.


    WHO CAN I TALK TO ABOUT THIS STUDY?

    You can ask questions about the study at any time. You can call the researcher if you have any concerns or complaints. You should call the researcher at the phone number listed on page 1 of this form if you have questions about the study procedures, study costs (if any), study payment (if any), or if you get hurt or sick during the study. Capella University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) has been established to protect the rights and welfare of human research participants.
