Working with Early Wounds: An Experiential Workshop Combining EMDR Therapy with Somatic Interventions

Approved for 7 EMDRIA Credits

This workshop will present ways to integrate EMDR and somatic interventions in the treatment of developmental injuries. In targeting attachment-related issues, clients sometimes have difficulty finding the precise negative cognition. When clients are unable to formulate a NC in words, it is often helpful to use bilateral stimulation with a somatic intervention designed to facilitate access to a verbal NC. Participants will also learn somatic interventions to use as interweaves if the processing is looping. Participants will learn how to include the body more completely in the Installation Phase of the 8-Phase Model.

This workshop is a follow-on to Treating Early Attachment Wounding: Somatic Interventions to Enhance EMDR Effectiveness.  It is designed to enable clinicians who have either taken the earlier workshop or are well-versed in somatic techniques to review and practice combining those techniques with the EMDR protocol. This workshop is highly experiential and will take participants through a session, interspersing the practice with didactic material.
