Exploring the Language & Culture of the Midbrain: EMDR Therapy Readiness & Resource Development

Approved for 4 EMDRIA Credits

Clients who come to EMDR therapy treatment with a history of early trauma and/or neglect often lack skills necessary for stabilization and for Adaptive Information Processing, particularly when stressful situations arise in the present. Activation of unprocessed neuronets (where executive functions shut down and clients are emotionally hijacked) can lead to significant hyper-arousal and/or dissociation, thus blocking successful processing. Even skillful use of interweaves can be ineffective in cases where clients lose dual awareness to this extent, and believe the misconceptions laid in (defectiveness, powerlessness...) Through an attachment-focused lens, we can learn how to help clients build skills necessary for rewiring the brain for greater health and contentment.
