Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is, perhaps, the most exciting psychotherapeutic development in the past twenty years.  Research has repeatedly shown its effectiveness in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and led to EMDR being recommended for treatment of PTSD by agencies in this country and abroad.  In addition, many clinicians have found EMDR to be effective with a variety of other psychological problems and issues.

This second part of the basic EMDR training will begin Thurs. Eve. Nov. 6, 6:00 – 9:00, and continue all day Fri., Nov. 7, and Sat. Nov. 8, from 9:00  - 5:30, with a half day follow-up Fri. morning Dec. 5, from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm.  It is designed to refine and expand your EMDR skills.  Material covered will include:

  • Basic case conceptualization
  • Expanding the use of EMDR beyond trauma treatment
  • The Cognitive Interweave and other advanced EMDR procedures
  • Using EMDR with more difficult and challenging clients
  • An introduction to Resource Development and Installation
  • Using EMDR with Children and Other Populations

This is an experiential workshop combining lecture, demonstration, and practice.  Participants will spend approximately 35%  of their time in small groups experiencing EMDR as a client and implementing it as a clinician.  I have added an additional half-day for this training to provide more time for feedback and case discussion.  Please note the EMDR International Association has also added a requirement of 10 hours of group consultation to complete the basic EMDR training.

WILLIAM M. ZANGWILL, Ph.D. is a highly regarded EMDR trainer, who worked extensively with Dr. Francine Shapiro, the originator of EMDR. For almost twenty years, he has trained therapists in EMDR and other methodologies in this country and abroad. He has written extensively on EMDR and presented at national conferences. He also specializes in combining EMDR and Meditation, in using EMDR with Schema Therapy, and in using EMDR with couples.  He practices in New York where he specializes in the treatment of PTSD and of sexual, marital and family problems.

Years ago he worked as a galley boy for Zim Israeli shipping lines.
