Training Schedule:

Part 1 - September 14-16, 2017

Part 2 - December 7-9, 2017

This Two-Part EMDR Institute Basic Training curriculum is inspired by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D., the originator of EMDR therapy.  Unlike other EMDR training opportunities available, the Institute's training curriculum is considered the "Gold Standard" which has been time-tested for years and provides the most updated information about EMDR therapy.

This six-day program is composed of Parts 1 and 2, and 10 hours of consultation, all included in the price.  Each part of the experiential training weekend consists of 10 hours of didactic (lecture and videotaped demonstrations) and 10 hours of supervised small group practice. Participants have ample opportunity to discuss their cases throughout the course and evaluate how EMDR therapy can be applied.

Small Group Practice: Participants also practice EMDR therapy in small groups with direct observation and constructive feedback from the trainer. This supervised experiential practice is used to reprocess participants’ own life experiences to gain an understanding of how clients experience EMDR therapy.

Case Consultation: Ten hours of case consultation are required. These sessions provide participants an opportunity for continued learning about EMDR therapy and a deeper understanding of how to apply EMDR therapy and integrate it into one’s practice. Participants’ strengths and weaknesses are assessed as a means of improving one’s overall knowledge and skills, setting a solid foundation for the practice of EMDR therapy. These sessions allow participants to discuss their clinical cases in a safe and professional environment.

Course Outline/Topics for September 14-16, 2017

The focus of this Part 1 Training is the model, method and mechanism of action of EMDR therapy. The Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model guides EMDR therapy and a thorough explanation is given. The eight phases of the EMDR therapy method are taught, demonstrated and practiced. This includes a specialized history-taking approach to identify dysfunctional patterns and causes as well as a treatment planning approach to address past events, current triggers and future needs. Stabilization mechanisms are introduced for the safe use of EMDR therapy with all types of clients. Accessing and reprocessing a dysfunctional held memory is explained, demonstrated, and practiced along with the procedures to strengthen the connections to positive self-beliefs and adaptive memory networks in the present and future situations.  EMDR therapy with children is explained and demonstrated, and the processing of a recent traumatic event is described.
