The Missing Link in Complex Trauma: Recognizing & Stabilizing Youth with Dissociation

Approved for 3.5 EMDRIA Credits

This webinar will focus on examining warning signs for a dissociative disorder, core dissociative symptoms, and differential diagnoses that carefully analyzes critical differences between more familiar diagnoses and dissociative disorders. Because comorbidity with dissociative children can be extensive, such as eating, substance abuse, attachment, and attention disorders, this workshop will examine the role that dissociation plays with comorbid symptoms and specific guidelines that address the interrelationship between both for effective intervention. Specific stabilization techniques for dissociation children and adolescents using EMDR therapy will be described that focus on developing inner awareness and cooperation between parts of the self, calming down the dysregulated stress response system, preventing acting out behavior, switching between self-states, managing triggers and expanding the child’s window of tolerance.  Clinical DVDs and artwork will illuminate the child’s inner world and illustrate intervention strategies.
